Privacy policy

Last updated: 4 November 2026

This translation is provided for convenience. Only the German version is legally binding.

In short: your browser does the questionnaire maths. Your answers only leave your device if you sign up. Then we store them together with your email address and the page language, encrypted in your browser before they leave your device. Only LessReels can read them. The website counts invites with a random code. This website uses no cookies, does not track you and only counts visits anonymously. You can unsubscribe at any time.

1. Who is responsible

The controller responsible for processing your personal data on this website is:

[First name Last name]
[Street and number]
[Postcode and town], Switzerland
Email: hqapp.project@gmail.com

2. What data we process

Waitlist

When you sign up, we store your email address and the language of the page you signed up on in encrypted form. We need the language so we can write to you in your language. We also store the time of sign-up, which form on the page you used and which version of this privacy policy applied at the time. We do not store an IP address or information about your device with your entry.

Questionnaire

On the home page you answer four questions: which apps you watch short videos on, roughly how many hours a day, how old you are and how often you watch longer than planned. Your browser then works out how much of your life this adds up to by the age of 80. As long as you don’t sign up, your answers stay on your device and are not stored anywhere. If you sign up, we store the answers and the result together with your email address, encrypted as described in section 4.

People who signed up before 4 November 2026 could answer three optional questions after signing up (phone, apps, daily limit). These answers also remain stored in encrypted form.

Your spot and invites

When you sign up, you get a spot on the waitlist and a random invite code. Your spot depends on when you signed up and on how many people signed up through your invite link. If you came through someone else’s invite link, we store that person’s code with your entry so they can move up. They never see your email address.

If you share LessReels after signing up using “Show your friends”, the link contains your random code. We invite people to the beta in the order of their spots. Nothing is stored on your device for this.

Visiting the website

When you open the page and submit the form, our hosting provider processes technically necessary data such as your IP address, the date and time, the page requested and your browser type. Without this data, the page could not be delivered or protected against attacks and abuse, for example by limiting sign-ups per IP address. Which language you see first depends on your browser’s language setting. This setting is only read, not stored.

We also count how often the home page is opened each day, split by the page language and the language set in your browser (for example “fr”), and how often the questionnaire is started and completed up to the result. We set no cookies for this and store neither your IP address, information about your device nor your answers. Only totals are stored, which cannot be linked to anyone. This shows us how many visitors complete the questionnaire, how many sign up and which languages are still missing.

3. What we use the data for

  • To let you know in your language as soon as LessReels launches, for example with the launch date or the price, and to invite you to the beta in the order of your spot.
  • To calculate your spot and count invites. Before every beta wave, we check whether sign-ups are real and delete made-up or duplicate addresses.
  • To understand from your questionnaire answers what LessReels needs to do, for example which apps it should support first, and to invite you to help shape LessReels, for example through surveys or test rounds.
  • To understand from the anonymous totals how well the page works and which languages are missing.

We do not sell your data or pass it on for advertising.

4. How we protect your data

  • Encryption in the browser: your email address, language and answers are encrypted on your device with a LessReels public key (RSA 4096-bit and AES 256-bit). The matching private key is stored neither at Netlify nor on this website. It is password-protected and held only by LessReels.
  • Storage in Frankfurt: the encrypted entries are stored with Netlify in Frankfurt am Main, where they are additionally encrypted.
  • Protected access: only whoever holds the private key can download and delete the list.
  • Automatic deletion: entries older than 24 months are deleted automatically.
  • Protection against abuse: the number of sign-ups per IP address and minute is limited.

5. Legal basis

We process your data under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on your consent for the waitlist and the questions (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and, for the technical data, on our legitimate interest in operating the website securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you live in Brazil, we rely on your consent and our legitimate interest (Art. 7, I and IX of the Brazilian General Data Protection Law, LGPD).

6. Who else receives the data

The website and storage are run on our behalf by Netlify, Inc., San Francisco, USA. Netlify only receives your email address, language and answers in encrypted form and cannot read them. Netlify also processes the technical data from page visits (section 2) outside Switzerland, in particular in the USA.

Netlify is certified under the EU-U.S. and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Since 15 September 2024, Switzerland has recognised an adequate level of data protection for US companies certified under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. In the EU, the same applies under the European Commission’s adequacy decision of 10 July 2023. In addition, Netlify’s data processing agreement includes the standard contractual clauses.

If you email us, Google processes your message as the provider of our mailbox (Gmail), including in the USA.

We may use another service to send the launch emails. We will add it here before we send the first email.

7. How long we keep the data

We keep your data until you unsubscribe, but no longer than 24 months after you signed up. After that, it is deleted automatically. The anonymous visit totals are also deleted after 24 months.

8. Your rights

You can ask at any time what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and withdraw your consent. A short email to hqapp.project@gmail.com is enough.

If you think we are not handling your data correctly, you can complain to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). If you live in the EU, you can also contact the data protection authority in your country. If you live in Brazil, the competent authority is the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados (ANPD). If you live in another country, you also have the rights granted by its data protection law. We handle all requests the same way.

9. Minimum age

The waitlist is for people aged 16 and over. If you are younger, please do not sign up.

10. Cookies, tracking and fonts

This website uses no cookies and no third-party analytics or advertising tools. We count visits ourselves, anonymously only (section 2). The fonts are hosted on our own server, so no data is sent to Google Fonts or other font providers.

Netlify shows a small notice in the bottom right corner saying that the site is hosted by Netlify. If you minimise it, your browser remembers this in its local storage. This information stays on your device.

11. Changes and languages

We update this policy when something changes, for example when the app launches. The current version on this page applies. This policy is available in German, English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. The German version is legally binding.
